MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned two of its top diplomats amid an escalating dispute between the country’s embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, over representation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Foreign Minister Abdisalam Omer Abdi (Dhaay) summoned Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, to Mogadishu for questioning.
Reliable sources said the inquiry centers on his recent visit to Kinshasa with a group of businesspeople from Kenya and Somalia as well.
Somalia’s embassy in Dar es Salaam objected to the visit, claiming it holds official responsibility for representing Somalia in the DRC.
The visit led to a rare public clash between the two missions, with sharp exchanges shared through media and social platforms.
The foreign ministry reportedly ordered both embassies to stop inflammatory remarks and avoid public statements without official approval.
Somalia’s ambassador to Tanzania, Ilyas Ali Hassan, is also in Mogadishu and is expected to face similar questioning.
A final decision from the ministry is expected in the coming days to resolve the dispute and restore diplomatic coordination.
