MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia has been elected to the African Union Peace and Security Council for a two-year term, advancing its diplomatic role.
The PSC serves as Africa’s primary decision-making body on conflicts, security, and peacekeeping, giving member states influence over regional stability and cooperation.
Last year, Somalia also secured a seat and chairmanship on the United Nations Security Council, reflecting growing trust in its international engagement.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated citizens, calling the election historic, emphasizing Somalia’s diplomatic progress and its credible role in promoting peace and regional cooperation.
The PSC membership allows Somalia to shape conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and security initiatives, strengthening partnerships and demonstrating responsibility across Africa’s regional security landscape.
