MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s religious affairs minister warned Friday that rising immoral behavior in Mogadishu may involve foreign interference indirectly.
Mukhtar Robow Ali, also known as Abu Mansur, said, “There is serious immorality in Mogadishu that we haven’t seen before.”
He suggested foreign governments might be promoting these negative cultural trends indirectly, though he did not name any specific countries publicly.
Robow urged parents, religious leaders, and government agencies to work together to protect Islamic morals and Somali social ethics urgently.
He said the Ministry of Religious Affairs plans to launch awareness campaigns to fight “this dangerous moral decline” very soon.
Last year, a group of female TikTokers were taken to court for spreading immoral videos, according to Somali officials.
Somali police also arrested several young people involved in similar immoral acts, authorities confirmed during recent statements to the press.
Robow stressed, “It is critical to preserve our religion, traditions, and Somali identity amid growing concerns over cultural changes threatening society.”
His remarks come amid public debate about cultural shifts and fears regarding the future of Somalia’s moral and social values.
