Washington, DC – Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, is set to make his initial visit to Saudi Arabia in the upcoming week. This marks his first journey to the kingdom after Riyadh and Tehran decided to reinstate their diplomatic ties, a negotiation facilitated by Beijing.

Matthew Miller, the department’s Spokesman, revealed in a Friday statement that Blinken’s itinerary will involve strategic dialogues with Saudi officials, addressing a variety of bilateral matters as well as global and regional issues. Topics likely to be covered include economic relations and security.

As part of his schedule, Blinken will also participate in a ministerial meeting on Wednesday with representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The aim of this session is to bolster collaboration with GCC partners on initiatives promoting regional integration, economic opportunities, and stability across the Middle East, alongside de-escalation of tensions.

This summit focuses on the ongoing international coalition’s efforts to combat the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization.
