MOGADISHU, Somalia — Uganda’s commander of land forces, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, visited Ugandan troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia.
During the visit, he assessed combat readiness and operational effectiveness at forward operating bases in Awdhegle and Barire in Lower Shabelle region.
Muhanga praised the troops for professionalism and discipline, saying their conduct has been key to supporting stabilization efforts and advancing mission objectives.
He also emphasized Pan-African cooperation and Uganda’s commitment to regional peacekeeping operations in Somalia, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Muhanga commended Ugandan forces for joint operations with the Somali National Army and international partners that led to the capture of several strategic towns.
He cited Sabii-Anole, Barire, Awdhegle, and Mubarak as areas secured through coordinated offensives and sustained military pressure against Al Shabab group.
He also urged troops to remain vigilant, warning that the security environment in Somalia remains unpredictable.
The visit included AU mission coordinators, military intelligence representatives, contingent commanders, senior officers, and international partners supporting stabilization operations.
