MOGADISHU, Somalia — A Turkish warship has arrived off the coast of Mogadishu, in what officials describe as part of growing security cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.

The vessel, TCG SANCAKTAR, was received by senior Somali government and military officials during a ceremony along the capital’s coastline.

Among those who boarded the ship were Somalia’s state minister for defence and the commander of the Somali National Army, alongside other senior security representatives.

The visit comes as Somalia steps up efforts to rebuild and modernise its navy and coast guard, aiming to strengthen maritime security along its lengthy coastline.

In recent days, Turkey has increased its military support to Somalia, including the delivery of equipment and the arrival of a military cargo aircraft in Mogadishu.

Security cooperation between the two countries has expanded in recent years, with Turkey providing training, personnel and logistical assistance.

Turkish authorities have also maintained a naval presence in Somali waters, reflecting broader defence ties between the two nations.
