MOGADISHU — Somalia’s judiciary has blocked an audit of nearly $2 million in public funds, the Auditor General said Saturday.
Ahmed Issa Gutale said the funds were meant for government projects but were not reviewed, raising concerns over transparency and accountability.
The incident was made public during a press briefing in Mogadishu, where the federal audit office monitors high-level financial transactions.
Gutale warned the judiciary’s refusal to cooperate undermines oversight and complicates efforts to track public spending and combat corruption.
He urged full inter-branch cooperation and said legislation may be needed to ensure compliance with federal audit requirements.
Analysts say the dispute highlights Somalia’s governance challenges and warn that such institutional rifts threaten reform, fiscal discipline, and public trust.
