MOGADISHU, Somalia — General Dagvin R.M. Anderson said Somalia is strategically important with many opportunities during his interview with Somali National Television.

He began his Africa visit in Somalia because it is located at a crucial crossroads for global trade and geopolitics.

Despite terrorist threats, Anderson said his visit aims to assess the security situation and strengthen partnerships in the region.

He is familiar with Africa, having previously led U.S. special operations forces on the continent before becoming AFRICOM commander.

Anderson met Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to build and support Somalia’s national security forces.

U.S. support will include air raid against terrorist groups, intelligence sharing, military training and other capacity-building efforts.

This visit is part of a broader tour of African countries hosting U.S. forces, while focusing on regional stability and partnership.
