MOGADISHU — Somali authorities seized a large shipment of narcotics at Aden Adde International Airport, officials said Thursday.
Authorities said 2,496 drug boxes in 48 sacks, plus six cartons of narcotics packaging materials, were confiscated.
They said the drugs were intercepted before leaving the airport and described the seizure as a serious threat to public safety.
An investigation is underway to identify the networks behind the smuggling attempt. Authorities said all involved will face prosecution.
The Attorney General’s Office called disrupting these criminal networks essential to protecting Somali citizens and national security.
The office also urged the public to report any suspicious activities linked to narcotics smuggling.
The statement ended with a pledge to continue investigations and hold all perpetrators accountable under Somali law.
