NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan police have opened an investigation after a Somali woman was found dead in a hotel room earlier on Monday.
The woman, identified as Farhiyo Ahmed, had checked into a hotel in South B, Nairobi, on the evening of September 1, police said.
She was accompanied by a man identified by hotel staff as Chelsea Mwangi, who was reportedly seen entering the room with her.
Hotel workers discovered Ahmed’s body the next morning, lying on the bed with blood coming from her mouth and nose, according to staff.
Police were immediately notified and officers arrived at the scene, beginning preliminary forensic examinations inside the hotel room.
Investigators say the cause of death remains unknown, but they are treating the incident as suspicious pending the results of an autopsy.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, collecting witness statements and seeking more information about Mwangi, who was not found at the hotel.
A senior officer said police are pursuing all leads but did not confirm whether Mwangi is considered a suspect or a witness.
Ahmed’s body was transported to the city mortuary, where medical examiners are expected to conduct a postmortem to determine the exact cause.
Family members and Somali community leaders in Nairobi have called for a thorough investigation and urged police to act quickly and transparently.
“We want justice for Farhiyo and answers about what really happened to her,” said a relative who asked to remain anonymous.
As of Thursday, no arrests had been made, and police say the case remains under active investigation.
