MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Qatar on Friday for talks on security and economic ties.
He was welcomed in Doha for a high-level working visit including meetings with senior Qatari officials focused on political cooperation and stability.
Speaking at an Al Jazeera forum, Mohamud said the international system faces serious challenges and urged ending violations of international law worldwide.
He said Somalia continues fighting terrorism but warned regional tensions and Israel’s intervention are empowering extremist groups and must be addressed urgently.
The visit comes as Somalia seeks increased foreign investment and security assistance to support its offensive against al-Shabab amid regional instability pressures.
Qatar has been a key partner for Somalia, providing humanitarian aid, development funding, and diplomatic support during years of conflict and instability.
The talks are expected to address regional security challenges, counterterrorism cooperation, and efforts to stabilize Somalia’s political and economic institutions nationwide systems.
Somalia has intensified its campaign against al-Shabab with support from allies while urging greater international engagement and coordinated responses from partners abroad.
