(Hortabin Media) – Somali government troops took control of a Amara town in Mudug region from Islamist rebels on this Monday, shortly after al-Shabab militants hastily fled the district.

Somalia’s deputy minister of information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adaala confirmed the capture of Amaara and said that Somalia’s army alongside  local fighters from the country’s central Galmudug region, entered the strategic and historic district of Amaara in Central Somalia.

The Minister said Amara has been controlled by the group for many years, and now the army is conducting operations in the whole area to ensure security and remove the IEDs.

Meanwhile, the Somali government said at least 200 al-Shabab militants were killed on Sunday in the middle Shabelle region during two operations conducted by government forces in collaboration with international partners, according to Ministry of information.

2022, The federal government launched a large-scale offensive against al-Shabab in the Mudug and Galgaduud regions in central parts of the country.
