MOGADISHU, Somalia — A 16-member Egyptian Armed Forces delegation arrived Sunday to conduct reconnaissance before deploying troops as part of AUSSOM.

The delegation is led by Maj. Gen. Islam Radwan, tasked with inspecting facilities for deployment and logistics in Mogadishu and nearby areas.

About 1,100 Egyptian soldiers will be deployd to Middle Shabelle region, replacing Burundian forces currently stationed there as part of a planned rotation.

The deployment is expected to be completed by year’s end, marking a step in reinforcing AUSSOM’s peacekeeping capabilities.

Security analysts say the additional forces will provide new resources and tactical support against al-Shabaab and other militant groups.

This move also deepens military cooperation between Egypt and Somalia, amid protests from Ethiopia over Egypt’s presence in Somalia.
