MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali aviation authorities said all 55 passengers and crew survived after a Fokker 50 aircraft crashed during an attempted landing at Aden Abdulle International Airport.
The aircraft, registered as 60-YAS and bound for Guriel and Galkaayo, developed mechanical problems shortly after takeoff and attempted to return to Mogadishu.
Authorities said the plane came down in the sea near the airport. All survivors were taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, and no fatalities were reported.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the African Union and the United Nations, were swiftly deployed to assist rescue operations, officials said.
The African Union mission said its head, Ambassador Mouktar Osman Karie, accompanied by senior officers, visited the site and assisted rescue teams evacuating passengers safely.
Authorities said an investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, with government agencies remaining at the airport.
